THE DEPARTURE : A BLOG BY SULAGNA DUTTA

This time it was a 'more difficult' adieu. Partings have always been painful, but what when there's no one to part with ?

As usual, she was there hours before the train arrived. And you know it why : to observe people. The people she 'does know' , or maybe the people 'they knew'. Yes, she was travelling with those same species of humans, only there wasn't any kid this time :)

No kids. No innocence. No funny sights to cherish. Just two aged men talking about grave affairs. Political riots. Medical campaigns. Pensions. Railway authorization. There was so much commotion in their views, yet she felt 'silent'. She was feeling the winter.

In her mind, she just wanted that man who would make her journey better. Better. And memorable. She remembered her first train journey alone. That 'baby' who needed your help to find her coach was growing up. Or maybe she was trying to grow up. After all, 'how long would you stay' ?

Remember that call ? The call that made her fall for you? This time the call, rather the 'missed call' was only a game of reflexes. She expected nothing. She just couldn't forget a single thing. Remember that deep blue tinge all over the screen ? This time black took over. Black. Darkness. The upper bunk, your favourite place ? Ah she spent the night there.

Midnight. Standing by the door, her hair brushing over her face, she was watching the rails run behind. There was a time when you'd get 'possessive' , she recalled. She took a step back. What a 'cold' night. She must be under her blanket now, writing down all those words she wanted to say, words she wanted you to read. She must be in tears and still grieving to have that 'constant companion' back, to have 'you' back. From "I like what I see" to no tags, no replies, no calls, poor connection. The transition has been quite unfortunate.

Having given her memories for life, you are still 'such a blessing'. And forever you'll be.

Rules. Promises. Hearts. Bonds. The world itself. Is everything meant to be broken ?
