LEAVING HOME : A BLOG BY SULAGNA DUTTA

Realising the most painful part of moving to a new place.

The things that have been with you don't surround you anymore. .

I'm not talking about your mother's love or your soulmate's support.

Such things are eternal.

But,

That iron latch you couldn't reach as a kid.

The stairs that once cut your knee.

The walls scratched by village scenaries.

The bed that knows your worst pains.

The pillow that has seen your strongest tears.

The dim light that knows your deepest thoughts.

The window that explained optical illusion.

The table that umpired the leg fight beneath.

The rotating chair that witnessed your tireless exam preparations.

The gallery of trophies you won as a sophomore.

Those unknown corners you shared your sorrows with.

The roof that awaits for the dream of a drunken night.

The portrait of your Grandma you always prayed before.

The locker that protected your secret diaries.

And those hundreds of novels that kept you awake all night.

You can't take everything with you wherever you go.

A deep attachment. A seemingly impossible parting.

Somewhere, it's not about getting out of your comfort zone.

It's more about finding your comfort in a different zone.
